Artist Tracey Bush and Bacon’s College students get creative!

We believe art is a great way to connect with local schools and support students’ education, providing the opportunity to encourage and discover young emerging, creative talent. We’re pleased to work with Bacon’s College to support students in their art education and over the past five years, this has included lending art from prominent artists to the school as well as providing exhibition spaces for GCSE and end of year displays. This academic year, we are thrilled to be loaning art from artists including Tom Philips and Tracey Bush, organised by our fantastic Art Curator, Rosie Glenn.

Bacon’s College is a co-educational secondary school and sixth form located in Rotherhithe, and the display focuses on collage artworks and includes contemporary works by Tracey Bush and Julie Cockburn.

Artist Tracey Bush, whose sustainable themed practice explores our relationship with the natural world, led a workshop with Y12 Graphic Design and Art & Craft students in early June. Focusing on bookmaking and collage techniques, the students participated in a practical workshop to create their own learning journal and enjoyed a virtual Zoom session with the artist, during which Tracey discussed her own inspiration and working methods.

Their teacher told us, “The students loved it. They have been showing off their sketchbooks and working in them during their classes.”

Check out our social media to see some of the photos taken on the day, featuring pieces made by the students and by Tracey herself.
