Surrey Quays Leisure Park Site – Reserved Matters Application update

Share this post:

On 8 October British Land submitted a Reserved Matters application relating to Surrey Quays Leisure Park. This is part of the outline planning consent gained for the site in 2010, before British Land acquired the Leisure Park earlier in 2015.

A condition of the outline planning permission required an application for the approval of the reserved matters for the first phase to be submitted within five years from the date of the planning permission (i.e. by 20 October 2015). In view of this, British Land will submit a Reserved Matters application so that the planning permission remains extant for a minimum of two further years.

British Land is currently working with Southwark Council and the local community to bring forward the Canada Water Masterplan, which incorporates the Surrey Quays Leisure Park site. British Land is fully committed to the progress of this masterplan. British Land are not seeking consent for the Reserved Matters application with intent to implement it; rather the exercise seeks to preserve the quantum of development established on the site, and their commercial interests. This application should not have any effect on the current Leisure Park. The existing occupiers on the Leisure Park site have been notified of British Land’s intent and rationale for submitting this application.

British Land presented this application and the background to it at the meeting of the Canada Water Consultative Forum on 5 October 2015 (see latest news post 02.10.15 for details). This presentation is available to download on the
Surrey Quays Shopping Centre Website, all the planning documents are also available on Southwark Council’s Planning Portal.
