We are pleased to announce that Southwark Council has granted planning permission for a temporary campus for TEDI-London, a new engineering higher education enterprise, in Canada Water. This follows public consultation on the plans in summer 2020.

This is an exciting moment for the Masterplan and reinstates British Land’s commitment to providing a Higher Education presence within the Canada Water Masterplan.

Co-founded by three global universities, King’s College London, Arizona State University and UNSW Sydney, TEDI-London has been set up with the aim of transforming engineering education, including diversifying the range of people studying and entering the profession. There will be a bursary scheme for Southwark residents and TEDI-London will run a programme of local outreach opportunities.

This seven-year temporary campus will house TEDI-London as well as providing space for other potential interim uses as part of the Canada Water Masterplan. It will be located within a 2-3 storey temporary innovation hub located off Quebec Way in a currently underused private car park that forms part of the Printworks compound. The temporary campus has been designed by internationally renowned architect HawkinsBrown and, as a modular construction, will mostly be built off-site, enabling British Land to minimise disruption to the local area.

Construction works are expected to start in the early part of next year, with the completion of the first phase ready in time for TEDI-London to welcome its first cohort of students in summer 2021.
