Gas network diversion update: Surrey Quays Shopping Centre car park

Share this post:

As mentioned in a previous news update, British Land is working with SGN to divert the gas main pipe located under Surrey Quays Shopping Centre car park.  The gas main needs to be diverted to allow construction of the first phases of the Canada Water Masterplan. These works are expected to finish in autumn 2020.

Working hours

Contractor JDT Utilities are permitted to work Monday – Friday between 8am-6pm, and as required, some Saturdays between 9am-2pm. There will be some noise while this work is undertaken, however we are mindful of those who live, work and shop in the area and have asked the contractor to try to minimise noisy activities wherever possible.

Week commencing 17th February – mid-April 2020

Based on the current programme, SGN are scheduled to move into the next phase of work from the week commencing 17th February through to mid-April 2020. This will see work continue to take place in the Shopping Centre car park, on Deal Porters Way and in Hothfield Place. The unused car park adjacent to Surrey Quays Road will be shut and used as a storage area.

The image below shows the work area and associated vehicle and pedestrian routes. Surrey Quays Shopping Centre will remain open as usual with sufficient car parking retained at all times. Buses will also operate as usual. We apologise for any inconvenience that these diversions may cause.

Keeping in touch

We will provide further updates on the works as they progress, including the location and impact of each further phase of work before it begins.

If you have any questions or concerns in advance of or during the works, please get in touch with the Canada Water Masterplan team. When appropriate, calls or queries will be diverted to SGN’s customer contact centre, where they are best placed to answer any questions. In the event of an emergency (smelling gas for example) please call the National Gas Emergency Number on 0800 111 999.
