Summer 2024 is here!

Alongside Love Summer, which is hosting a variety of family friendly workshops and activities outside Surrey Quays Shopping centre, there is also a lot going on around Canada Water, Rotherhithe and Surrey Quays.

For Young People:

  1. The Salmon Youth Centre This hub offers everything from sports and creative arts to music and outdoor activities for ages 6-25. Plus, they provide invaluable support services like mentoring and employment advice. The centre has something for everyone, whether you’re into football, dancing, or hanging out with friends.

 

  1. Canada Water Studios Love to dance? Canada Water Studios hosts various dance classes and workshops, including hip-hop, ballet, and contemporary dance. Perfect for beginners and seasoned dancers alike, these classes are a great way to stay active and make new friends this summer.

 

For Children and Families:

  1. Time and Talents Join family-friendly activities like arts and crafts, storytelling sessions, and fun family days. They also offer summer holiday clubs to entertain and engage children during the school break, with spaces available for the T&T half-term holiday club for children aged 6-11 in Southwark who receive benefit-related free school meals or are part of Pupil Premium.   1. Surrey Docks Farm Surrey Docks Farm offers hands-on educational workshops, animal feeding sessions, and gardening activities. Meet the farm animals, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and don’t forget to stop by the farm café for a tasty treat.

  

  1. Southwark Park is the perfect spot for a family day out. It has a playground, a boating lake, and plenty of open space for picnics and games. Watch for special events like the Bermondsey Carnival, outdoor concerts, and fitness classes throughout the summer.

 

  1. Love Summer returns on Friday 26 July! Offering something for everyone and free of cost, there will be different workshops and activities for all to enjoy. Keep an eye out for the next round of ticket releases for the workshops!

 

  1. Sports and films are on the big screen outside the Surrey Quays Shopping Centre. New for this year, the big screen will show sporting action with the Olympics and Paralympics on show! Community Events and Activities:

  1. Rotherhithe Festival It’s back! Rotherhithe Festival Saturday, 3 August, at King George’s Fields. This lively day has live music, dance, theatre performances, food stalls, and many activities for all ages. It’s a fantastic way to experience the community spirit of SE16.

 

  1. Brunel Museum Explore the fascinating history of the Thames Tunnel at the Brunel Museum. They offer family-friendly tours and educational workshops, and their outdoor events in the museum garden are perfect for summer evenings.

 

  1. Bermondsey Carnival Celebrate your August bank holiday with food, drink, live music and kids activities at the Bermondsey Carnival on Monday 26 August at Southwark Park!

 

  1. Tideway Sailability offers an inclusive sailing experience for everyone, regardless of ability. This summer, they are hosting sessions on Sundays and Wednesdays where young people and families can learn to sail in a safe, supportive environment. With a range of accessible boats and experienced volunteers, it’s a fantastic opportunity to get out on the water and try something new​. 

Summer Camps and Workshops:

  1. Bizzie Bodies Summer Camps Bizzie Bodies is back with its educational and entertaining summer camps. These camps are perfect for engaging kids with fun activities and learning about STEAM. Expect creative workshops, games, and more designed to stimulate and keep young minds active.

 

  1. Ballers Academy Summer Camps For young sports enthusiasts, Ballers Academy hosts their popular summer football camps. Running for three separate weeks during the holidays, these camps offer professional coaching, skill development, and plenty of match play. It’s an excellent way for kids aged 3 to 16 to stay active and maybe even catch the eye of a scout! Plus, parents can join the fun with new adult fitness sessions.​

 

  1. Docklands Settlement The Docklands Settlement community centre offers a range of activities, from sports to arts and crafts. Check out their schedule for various summer programs for different age groups, ensuring every child finds something they love.

 

  1. Global Generation Join Global Generation for eco-friendly workshops and activities that teach kids about sustainability and gardening. Their hands-on approach allows children to connect with nature and learn valuable skills while having fun outdoors.

 

  1. London Bubble Theatre Company This summer, London Bubble are hosting sessions that help young people express themselves through theatre, develop confidence, and make new friends. Keep an eye on their website for dates and registration details.

 

  1. Roosters Boxing Club offers summer training sessions for young people interested in boxing. These sessions focus on fitness, discipline, and skill development, providing a positive outlet for energy and a chance to learn from experienced coaches.

  1. Canada Water Library Canada Water Library hosts summer reading challenges, storytelling sessions, and educational workshops for children. These are great ways to keep young minds engaged over the summer. 

 

  1. Southwark Park Activities From a free running club that meets every Saturday morning to outdoor gyms and sports clubs, there’s something to keep everyone active. Check out the open-air concerts at the Bandstand and the exhibitions at the Café Gallery for a dose of culture.
