Surrey Quays Shopping Centre, owned by British Land, is pleased to announce they have rehoused the Hand Car Wash so that this important local business can now continue operating at the site as the Canada Water development takes shape.
Having moved here from Kosovo in the late 1990s, Hand Car Wash owner Dini started his business in Surrey Quays a decade ago as he “saw an opportunity at the shopping centre” to clean and valet cars.
He has since become a popular local figure in the area, with a repeat clientele and a growing business. When asked what he thought of the plans for the Canada Water development, he said, “it’s going to mean a lot to the community with new spaces to shop and eat – it’s nice to see the area change”.
Surrey Quays Shopping Centre is part of the Canada Water development, with preparatory construction works underway, such as the demolition of the former Tesco petrol station and reconfiguration works in the car park.
Working with the community and local businesses, the Shopping Centre team has been working with retailers to find creative solutions as construction work begins to ramp up.
The Shopping Centre team is also working with the community to lend empty spaces for community use. Rod Kitson, a local artist, has been given a unit by the Shopping Centre to provide community art classes, and the centre has also provided space to the charity Time & Talents.
