Southwark Council has granted planning permission to develop two areas adjacent to the former Printworks, known as Zone F and Zone L of the Canada Water Masterplan. The development will help to meet the pressing local need for new homes along with delivering exceptional public spaces, play areas, shops, restaurants and offices.
The development in Zone F, located across a portion of the Surrey Quays Leisure Park and part of the car park of the former Printworks, will comprise two buildings providing around 400 new homes along with workspace and retail spaces. The construction will follow a highly sustainable design and feature green roof terraces. The terraces will incorporate innovative play spaces that aim to engage local children with a variety of interactive elements. In line with our commitment to ensure our development contributes to a thriving local economy and community, we remain in regular discussions with cinema operators to establish the demand to deliver an appropriate facility within the Masterplan.
The development in Zone L, to the rear of the Printworks along Quebec Way, will deliver 237 new homes, of which 137 will be social rented and 37 intermediate tenure. The proposals also include open courtyards to be made publicly available for people of all ages to relax and play. More than a third of the site is given over to public space, with 25 new trees proposed. The ground floor is designed for flexible uses, with a focus on local workspace or retail requirements.
